This privacy policy applies to all information collected or submitted on Soapbox. As part of the normal operation of our services we collect and may disclose some information about you. By accepting this privacy policy and our terms and conditions, you expressly consent to our use and disclosure of your personal information in the manner described in this privacy policy. This privacy policy is incorporated into and subject to the terms of the Soapbox terms and conditions.

Your personally identifiable information will be stored and processed on our computers in the United States. The laws regarding the handling of personal data in the United States may differ from the laws of other countries but our site is intended primarily for use in the United States, or by United States citizens. As we explain below, Soapbox.us will hold and transmit your information in a safe, confidential and secure environment.

If you are a voter, on our site you can make requests for information such as ballot information glossary terms, candidate information, props & measures information, political party information, groups, organizations & business as well as register to receive information on the site and via email, and even make financial contributions to groups and individuals. If you make a contribution you will be doing so on a profile/contribution page which might be hosted by Soapbox as a paid advertisement by a candidate or organization which is registered with the relevant election authority as an authorized campaign committee. Your contribution may be processed by our contribution payment processor, or we might redirect you to the candidate's or organizations home page and you will be subject to their terms conditions and privacy policies. Information collected during this process by Soapbox is covered under this privacy policy.

If you are a candidate, a ballot measure committee, an organization, or business you may submit information about yourself, your campaign, or your committee or organization. You may also receive confidential information from, and conduct confidential communications with, supporters and contributors.

The types of personal information that may be collected on these pages include but are not limited to:
  • Name
  • Address
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Credit/debit card information
  • Occupation & employer information
  • Bank account information
  • Answers to political questions
  • Any posts, messages or other forms of publishing private or public
  • Information on which political candidates and organizations to which you have made contributions or agreed to support.
The way we use information:
We use the information you provide about yourself when creating an account or making a contribution only for that purpose. We do not share this information with outside parties except to the extent necessary to complete your request and to the extent necessary to fulfill campaign disclosure laws and regulations.

You should recognize that campaign disclosure laws generally require that we release certain personal details (usually not credit card or personal financial information) of contributors who have made contributions on our site to the relevant campaign committee or organization. We will inform you what information we will be sending to such committee or organization. You should expect that you will be required to make public campaign disclosures with one or more regulatory agencies which will contain some of your personal information.

If you make a contribution to a candidate, campaign committee, or political organization, you should anticipate that the amount of the contribution and certain of your personal details will become public knowledge.

We use return email addresses to answer the email we receive. Such addresses are not used for any other purpose and are not shared with outside parties without your permission.

You can register with our website if you would like to save your information or if you'd like to interact with other users of the site. Only by registering and answering the easy vote questions can you receive "matches" to everything that will be on your ballot.

We use non-identifying and aggregate information to help improve the design of our website and to share or sell to candidates and organizations. For example, we may tell a candidate that w number of individuals visited a certain area on our website, or that x number of men and y number of women filled out our registration form, or that z number of people within this demographic place this issue as a priority, but we would not disclose anything that could be used to identify those individuals without explicit permission. We also may conduct general polls for candidates and for improvement of our website. Any such poll is not mandatory for a registered user to complete.

Finally, we never use or share the personally identifiable information provided to us online in ways unrelated to the ones described above without also providing you an opportunity to opt-out or otherwise prohibit such unrelated uses.

Our commitment to data security
To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.

Accessing, reviewing and changing your profile or account

Following registration, you can review and change the information you submitted during registration. For instructions on how to do so, visit the help section of the website. If you change your password and email address we will retain a record of your old password and email address. You can also change your registration information such as: name, address, city, state, zip code, phone number, contact person, profile entries, etc..

Upon your notification, we will remove your profile or account from our active databases as soon as reasonably possible in accordance with our policy and applicable law. To learn how to hide or remove your profile so that others cannot view it, visit the help section of the website.

We will retain in our files information you have requested be removed from our active databases for certain purposes, such as to resolve disputes, troubleshoot problems and enforce our terms and conditions. Further, such prior information may never be completely removed from our databases due to technical and legal constraints, including stored ‘back up' systems. Therefore, you should not expect that all of your personally identifiable information will be completely removed from our databases in response to any request you may submit.

Legal requests
Soapbox cooperates with law enforcement inquiries, as well as other third parties to enforce laws, such as: intellectual property rights, fraud and other rights.
